When I founded Aquatic Environment Consultants, Inc. (AEC) in 1987, my purpose was simple: to help pond owners improve the health of their fish population and control the growth of weeds and algae in their pond. Little did I know how far the science of pond management would evolve! The management of any water body requires a complex, in-depth understanding of the interactions of all the biological systems dealing with that water body. What I’ve learned during the past 20 years has made AEC a recognized leader in the field of pond and lake management.

Experience Counts

Our employees are active in many societies concerned with the management of water bodies. I recently served as president of the Midwest Aquatic Plant Management Society, one of the leading chapters of the National Aquatic Plant Management Society. We are also very active in the Pennsylvania Lake Management Society, as well as, the North American Lake Management Society. As experts, my staff and I give numerous presentations to organizations throughout the country on the management of water bodies.

Beware of Magic Bullets

One of our greatest challenges is educating our clients about the difficulties associated with managing ponds and lakes. Too often our clients receive management recommendations from inexperienced sources (such as the farmer up the road) that really don’t address the problem. Engineering firms, landscape companies and environmental firms all seem to have a magic bullet to solve a pond or lake problem. While these companies are experts in their respective fields, they have limited knowledge concerning pond and lake management. Their recommendations seem valid; however, they don’t have the track record needed to properly evaluate the situation. Invariably, the outcome is wasted time, money and effort. While continuing to learn new techniques and information every year, we at Aquatic Environment Consultants, Inc. pride ourselves on a proven track record of success.
